Every county keeps a free public map of property boundaries called a GIS map. It's the easiest way to get a rough measurement without climbing a ladder or breaking out a tape measure.

Here's how to find yours:

1. Search "[Your County] County GIS map" in Google. Most Iowa counties have one, usually hosted on the county assessor's website.
   
   
2. Type in your address to pull up your property.
   
   
3. Use the measuring tool (usually a ruler or line icon in the toolbar) to trace along the rooflines, eaves, or areas you want lit.
   
   
4. Add up the total footage for each section. That's your rough linear footage.
